Napalm Death Ticket

with support from Shadowthrone and another band I didn't get the name of.

Reminder: get some earplugs

Dear pasta packet makers...why give me a sticky resealing tab and attach it to a packet that tears from top to bottom when I try to carefully open the top, that little piece of tape cannot fix that tear!!

Just having a quick bite to eat then off the the SECC for a night of metal goodness, Darkest Hour, DevilDriver, Bring Me The Horizon and the mighty Machine Head...

Sore necks and bleeding ears are in my future.

update: The next day and some thoughts on the night.

Who the hell decided on this line-up and the running order? Opener Darkest Hour did what was needed, good enough show, lots of energy and good enough tracks, not that familiar with their stuff so can't say more than that, but no complaints.

DevilDriver f**king killed it as usual but only played for about 30 minutes, it felt like a warmup!! WTF, I couldn't believe it when they left the stage I thought they were joking around with a kind of fake encore but no they left for good. So the crowd were all fired up after DD then what happened?

In all my years of concert going (22+ years, yeah I'm an oldie) I have never seen a band die so bad as Bring Me The Horizon did, I felt embarrassed for them. Their music really did not fit in with Machine Head or actually any of the other bands. They managed to kill the atmosphere pretty quick and quite a lot of booing ensued. It was painful to watch.

In the interests of honesty I will say that I don't much care for BMTH, I have seen them before but do not like them BUT was willing to give them a second chance, I have seen many bad/mediocre bands and generally they will have a little bit of interest/spark such as a nice riff or groove, it may only be one little riff in one song, but generally I try to see the positives, and I will respect someone for having the guts to get out there in front of people 'cause sure as hell I wouldn't. The only thing I can say about BMTH was they had an OK light show!!! and even that started to get a bit irritating towards the end.

It goes without saying that Machine Head blew the place apart. The only disappointing thing was that the show was quite obviously undersold, don't know the reasons but could be the economy or proximity to the xmas holidays.

My ears still bleed* today though

*actually a little buzzing after the gig but OK now though :) and looking forward to Napalm Death on Sunday

Our wee furry friend Ash passed away today after what we think was a stroke. So long, we will miss you
