Icelandic River Rafting

As a birthday present my brother bought me a river rafting trip. It was really cold!! I think I shivered for about an hour afterwards.

Day 5 - Saturday 26th May 2012

A free day, no activities planned. We decided to take a whale watching trip. We saw Minke whales and some porpoises. On the way back we stopped off at Puffin Island and got to see a lot more puffins.

After lunch we took a wander around Reykjavik.

Day 4 - Friday 25th May 2012

First stop of the day was a walk among the sulphurous springs in the hills. It smells bad and is very hot. Next we stopped at the Raufarholshellir cave (lava tube) system and spent a couple of hours exploring, very hard work and a little scary at times.

Day 3 - Thursday 24th May 2012

A very busy day...First up was a guided walking tour of a glacier (I forget the name but it was next to Eyjafjallajökull, the volcano that erupted and closed most of Europes airspace). It was a pretty epic offroad track just to get to the meeting point. We donned crampons and grabbed our ice axes and set off up the icy hill...

Once we had finished our glacier trek we then went off to explore a really cool beach, black volcanic sand and lots of cool rock formations and HUGE waves. It was also pretty windy and best of all I finally got to see puffins!!!

...and then after that we went off to see a couple of waterfalls, Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss.

Iceland Trip 22nd - 27th May 2012 : Day 1 and 2.

For my 40th !!!!! birthday I got to go to Iceland for 5 days. Here are some photos of our arrival into Keflavik airport and first full day.

On our first day we spent time on the Golden Circle "tourist trail". This route passes through some of the cool things to see. Thingvellir (a rift-valley, crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge), Geysir/Stokkur/Litli Geysir (geysirs) and Gullfoss (waterfall).
